How to Clear Cache in Firefox Web Browser

Firefox, just like all the other web browsers, saves items (such as photos) as Cache to assist in speeding up browsing. If you use Firefox as your primary browser, you can clear the cache manually by going to the “Privacy & Security” page in the browser settings. You can also set up custom settings to clean the cache on a regular basis.

Why Clear Cache and Cookies?

Clearing the cache and cookies is a critical initial step in practically any internet browsing troubleshooting. The ‘cache’ is a feature of your browser that allows you to speed up the loading of pages. However, when websites are updated and developed, it might cause issues because files kept in the cache may contradict what’s really written into the website. Clearing your cache and cookies ensures that any problems you have are due to a problem with the website rather than discrepancies created by different browsers.

Clear Cache in Firefox: In the Desktop Browser

  1. Select Settings from the three-line menu button in the upper right corner of the Firefox desktop browser. When the Settings screen appears, on the left-hand side, click “Privacy & Security.
  2. Scroll down to the Cookies and website data section. This will show you how much storage space your cookies, site data, and cache are currently consuming-in our case, over 1 GB! To proceed, click “Clear Data.”
  3. Check the box to clear “Cached Web Content” when the Clear Data window appears. You can also delete cookies and website data, but this setting should be disabled because it will disconnect you from the website. To delete something, click Clear.
  4. In the Firefox browser, you can also clear the cache by clicking the three-line menu button, selecting the history, and clearing the recent history.
  5. Uncheck the boxes in the History section except for Cache when the Clear Recent History box appears. If you want, you can also clear site data and browsing history. After selecting all from the drop-down list of time periods to be deleted, click OK.

Clear the Cache in Firefox: In the Android browser

  1. Select Settings by clicking the three-dot menu symbol in the top-right or bottom-right corner of the Firefox app for Android (depending on where you’ve set your toolbar).
  2. Choose “Delete browsing data” from the “Privacy and security” section.
  3. Uncheck all boxes except cached pictures and files, and click Clear browsing data. By clicking Delete, you confirm that Firefox should delete the selected browsing data.
  4. At the bottom-end of your screen, you’ll see the message “Browsing data removed.
  5. You can also configure the Firefox mobile browser to automatically clear the cache when it is closed. Return to the Settings screen and select “Delete browsing data on quit” from the drop-down menu.
  6. Select “Cached pictures and files” from the options below after turning on that option. Every time you close Firefox, this data will be deleted.

Clear cache in Firefox: In the iOS browser

  1. In the Firefox app for iPhone and iPad, tap the three-line menu button in the top-right corner. Choose Data Management from the Privacy section of Settings.
  2. Select Cache and “Offline Web Site Data” on the Data Management page, but leave the other choices turned off unless you wish to delete your browsing history, cookies, and downloads as well.
  3. To delete private data and speed up Firefox on your iPhone or iPad, tap Clear Private Data, then OK.
